Even though I was 65, Dr. Berman would perform ACL Reconstructive Surgery on me!
In March of 2013, I was doing a “Stupid Man Trick” and was attempting to trim a dead branch on a tree in my backyard using an extension ladder leaned against the tree. Predictably the ladder slipped off and I fell about 10 feet landing with all of my weight on my left leg. I will never forget the sound like a thick rubber band snapping inside of my knee. I remember thinking as I sat there on the ground (after the ladder crashed down on my head) that whatever happened to my knee wasn’t going to turn out well.
I went to see Dr. Berman and was told I had torn my ACL. A MRI a week later confirmed my ACL was indeed torn along with my meniscus. In my follow up consultation, Dr. Berman said that, even though I was 65, because I was still very active, he would perform ACL Reconstructive Surgery on me. I was operated on in June and had a donor ACL grafted in, and followed up with about 3 months of physical therapy in the same facility as his office (Arlington Orthopedic Associates). The staff in the therapy room were great, and diligently worked to get my knee to regain full range of motion and strength.
I had my one year checkup a couple of weeks ago, and was given a clean bill of health. I am an avid golfer, runner, cyclist, swimmer, and anything else I can find to tax my body to it’s limits. My knee is 100% restored, and I have perfect stability and strength back in it. I have begun my training to get back to 10K running form, and my running stride is no different now than it was before the incident. Nothing I do bothers it, or makes me feel like there is anything less than perfect going on inside it.
I cannot thank Dr. Berman and his staff enough for giving me back the life I am accustomed to living. I can’t imagine what I would be doing had it not been for his expertise and willingness to repair the damage to my knee. He is truly a wonderful and caring Orthopedic Surgeon, and I endorse him 100% without any reservations at all. If you have an issue with you knee, call him and I promise you will not regret doing so.
I would be remiss not to mention that he has the kindest and prettiest nurse I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Thank you, Andrea, for your care and concern. Dr. Berman is very lucky to have you.
